THE CÉF REACTS TO COMMENTS MADE BY THE GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN

15/03/2013
(Regina – March 15th, 2013) – The Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF) does not agree with comments made by the Government of Saskatchewan with regards to the state of its facilities as reported in the March 14th edition of the Regina Leader-Post. According to the article, the CÉF would have received 32 million dollars for infrastructure out of a total budget of 500 million dollars, which, according to the Ministry of Education, represents 6% of the total budgeted amount for a group representing less than 1% of the population. What the Ministry isn’t saying, however, is that since the management of Fransaskois schools was handed over to the first conseils scolaires fransaskois in 1994, no plan to upgrade the French-language school system to the same level as majority schools has been put forth by the Ministry. In addition to this, since the CÉF has only been in existence for less than 20 years, the infrastructure system is still being built, and it is therefore normal that the Government of Saskatchewan would have to provide capital funding in order to catch up and repair past injustices.    Read more
